Simulators that help you switch off

July 14, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

Not every game needs stakes. Sometimes the best thing a phone game can do is give your hands something gentle to do while your mind slows down.

Simulators like Gearwright Workshop nail this. There's a clear loop — take a job, fix it, improve your setup — and no failure state waiting to ruin your evening.

The trick is finding one with enough long-term progression to stay interesting. Too shallow and you drift away in a day; too grindy and it stops being relaxing. Balance is everything.

We like sims for winding down before bed, when a competitive game would just wake us up. Offline is a bonus — no notifications, no pressure to log in.

Give one a real week before judging it. The satisfaction of a sim usually creeps up on you rather than hitting on day one.
