Tidecrown Empires
★★★★★ 4.5
Tidecrown Empires is a strategy game about growing seafaring city-states from a single harbor into a network of trade and defense. It runs entirely offline, and the AI opponents are handled locally, so there's no waiting for other players or servers.
The pace is deliberate. You balance food, timber, and shipwrights while deciding whether to expand or fortify. Battles play out on a hex map where positioning matters far more than raw numbers — we lost a fleet twice its size once by ignoring the wind mechanic.
It has a learning curve, and the tutorial could hold your hand a little longer. Once it clicks, though, single sessions stretch far longer than you plan. Great for people who like to think between moves.
What we liked
- Local AI opponents, no connection needed
- Genuine tactical depth on the hex map
- Satisfying long-term economy building
